City of Carlsbad
COMMUNITY OUTREACH FOR TAMARACK AREA DRAINAGE PROJECT
JPW took this area from flooded streets to sweet treats
There was no easy path forward. The City of Carlsbad needed to fix drains along a busy road, so inevitably, drivers would feel the construction pains. On top of that, there’d just been a flurry of unrelated construction in the area —so folks were grumpy. But as streets continued to flood, the City knew it had to bite the bullet and tackle the prickly project.
The public outreach for this project demanded expertise, and the City tapped JPW to deliver it. JPW crafted an extensive outreach plan aimed at stakeholders who would be most impacted. Tamarack Avenue—where most the work was happening—is near four schools, so hundreds of parents use it daily. Considering that, JPW coordinated closely with school administrators via face-to-face meetings and ongoing communication.
The JPW team also knocked on doors, created an arsenal of collateral, and used all sorts of digital tools to keep the public informed. Virtually no stone was left unturned.
By going the extra mile, JPW helped create a public attitude that was cooperative, and at times, even neighborly. Some residents were so appreciative, in fact, they showered construction crews with fresh fruit and home-baked cookies—which is literally sweet success in public outreach.
