JPW Communications, a boutique public relations agency dedicated to serving the public sector, has expanded its services by welcoming a new client executive, Marlena Medford.
Medford has more than a decade of communications experience, spanning government, journalism and digital civic engagement. In her role at JPW Communications, she will call on that experience to help government clients connect with their communities.
Having Medford onboard will allow the agency to grow its portfolio while also offering additional consultation focused on online outreach—which is becoming an increasingly critical component of public outreach, and is one of Medford’s strongpoints.
"Marlena brings the perfect mix of creativity and critical thinking to her role at JPW Communications," said Jenny Windle, founder and president of the firm. "She will be a tremendous asset to our clients as we help them work through important communication issues at various levels."
Prior to joining JPW Communications, Medford served as Director of Government Outreach and Communications for Peak Democracy, an online civic engagement platform for local governments. In this role, she helped cities like Salt Lake City and Palo Alto build and sustain online community engagement.
She also served as communications officer for the City of Encinitas, a role in which she earned several awards for her public engagement efforts from the American Planning Association (APA) and California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO).
Marlena is also an accomplished journalist who has worked in print, broadcast and digital media—and occasionally, she still writes for local publications and government journals.
“My passion sits at the intersection of civic engagement and communications,” Marlena said. “Effective public outreach is a force that can turn tides. Being a part of that excites me, and I’m looking forward to using my experience to help move the needle for our clients."
